Prospects for turkey hunters this year are good, reported Duane Wood at Chico Sportsman's Den. "There are a ton of birds around, including down by the Sacramento River", observed Wood. "The birds are talking, but a lot of success will depend on the weather."

Wood tipped, "Anyone hunting on federal or state lands down near the river must remember to use only non-toxic shot. Citations will be written for hunters caught using lead shot."

Some local public lands that have a spring wild turkey hunting season, call for specifics: Oroville Wildlife Area [538-2236]; Lake Oroville State Recreation Area [538-2200]; Black Butte Lake [432-6427].
